On Monday, October 16, 2017 twenty- four enthusiastic students, along with teachers Mr.Thayer and Mr.Hoffman, completed a hike from Grayson Highlands State Park along the Appalachian Trail to the Mount Rogers Summit, then to Elk Garden.

|Practical Nursing Graduates Return to Teach Current Washington County Career and Technical Education Center Students||10-20-2017||
On October 13th students enrolled in practical nursing classes at the WCCTEC were treated to a special presentation on skin cancer. The guest lecturers were graduates from the Washington County and Russell County Schools of Practical Nursing and are practicing Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs).

On October 5th, Watauga preschool students traveled to Williams' Orchard in Rural Retreat, Va. Students enjoyed a wagon ride to the fields and were able to learn about the crops growing there.
|Glade Spring Middle School World Heritage Club Goes Hungarian||10-19-2017||
Club Day at GSMS was filled with excitement for the Heritage Club sponsored by Mrs. Pam Mink. After all, it’s not a typical day at school when you get to try on a Russian military uniform from WWII! Andrea Moormans and members of her family visited with club members at their October meeting to share a bit of their Hungarian heritage.

On Friday, October 6, members of the Abingdon Falcon football team visited Greendale Elementary students during morning bus duty. The visiting Falcons walked the morning mile, had breakfast and greeted car riders as they arrived at school.

As a wrap up activity for a novel study of How to Steal a Dog by Barbara O’Connor, the 5th grade students at Abingdon Elementary participated in a service project organized by the 5th grade language arts teachers.

Fourth grade students in Mrs. Richardson’s Virginia Studies Class participated in a wall station scavenger hunt to review Virginia Geography and First Americans.
|Rhea Valley Elementary Donates to Hurricane Relief||10-13-2017||
The students at Rhea Valley Elementary are doing their part to help those affected by the recent hurricanes. The Gifted and Talented Education students at Rhea Valley Elementary coordinated a school-wide campaign to collect donations for the American Red Cross for hurricane relief.
